FDA Won't Let Me Sell You S.O.D. Supplements -Roger Mason
There are two major antioxidant enzymes in our bodies. S.O.D. or superoxide dismutase is one of the most important and powerful antioxidants in our body along with glutathione. This means they fight free radicals. You cannot take oral S.O.D. supple-ments, as they are broken down during digestion, and are, therefore, completely useless. Anyone who tries to sell you oral S.O.D. is a crook. The oral S.O.D. is measure in mg and extracted from melons! What a scam. While glutathione itself does not raise blood glutathione levels very well, fortunately, NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) in 600 mg doses does a fine job of this.
S.O.D. levels tend to fall as we age. Glutathione levels fall in some people but not in
Others. Studies prove that raising these makes us stronger, healthier and live longer. You can inject S.O.D. and get great results, but there are no doctors who are willing to do this. You can use an SOD nasal spray, but the FDA won't allow the sales of nasal sprays. They classify this as a prescription drug. Can you see why the government isn't really your friend now? The government is the problem, not the answer.
Why don't the pharmaceutical corporations make a S.O.D. nasal spray, so the doctors can write you a prescription? Or sublingual S.O.D? Good question, but you will have to ask them. I honestly don't know. Living well keeps your antioxidant levels up naturally. Eating well and exercising keeps your S.O.D levels elevated, but your level still falls as you age. A recent study showed that lab animals given fish oil raised their myocardial (heart muscle) S.O.D. levels. One gram of flax oil would be a better choice. This was done at the famous University of Uppsala in Sweden and published in Natural Research (v. 17, 1996). Also the levels of thromboxine (the lower they are the better) fell from using omega-3 supplements. This means your heart will be stronger and you'll live longer. Surely the S.O.D. levels of other organisms like liver and kidneys were raised as well, although this was not addressed in the study.
You can either take fish oil or flax oil to get omega-3 fatty acids, but flax oil is by far the best choice. Take one 1,000 mg. capsule of flax oil if you have no medical conditions and two capsules if you have a medical problem of some kind. We have always advocated the use of flax oil for people of all ages. Buy this refrigerated and store it refrigerated or it will oxidize and spoil.
Readers of this column have noticed that topical S.O.D. cream is sold on this site with 50,000 PIU of real Zn/Cu complexed superoxide dismutase in each two ounce jar. This is the ONLY such cream in the world, and the ONLY cream to clearly state how how much S.O.D. is in it. There is also a two ounce pump spray with 50,000 PIU. The S.O.D. comes from Switzerland and costs $1,000 per pint. You get a full 50,000 PIU (units) of real, stabilized superoxidase dismutase in the spray, and it, too, is the only such spray in the world. These are not transdermal and will not go into your bloodstream unfortunately.
The clinical literature is full of references of the value of S.O.D., both injected and topical. It is unfortunate that pharmaceutical corporations won't make a good, fairly priced nasal spray or sublingual drops, and doctors write prescriptions for it. It is a shame that the FDA rules state that you can buy a topical cream or a topical spray, but not a nasal spray or sublingual drops. With just a quick search over the last ten years over fifteen international studies were located on the topical uses for burns, sunburns, wounds, aging, wrinkles, and general skin metabolism and health. There was even one study that showed potential to grow hair. These are most impressive.
These studies came from Tohoku University (Japan), Turku University Hospital (Finland), Capital University (China), Center Gerontological University (Philadelphia), Kawasaki Medical School (Berkeley), Kobe University (Japan), Beiersdorf A-G (Germany), INSERM Paris (France), Shibaura Institute (Japan), Shandong University (China), and Advance Ltd. (Japan). This is obviously an impressive list, and it is printed here to show you just how effective topical S.O.D. really is. There are dozens more of such published studies.
And just one more reason to take flax oil every day.
