Eat All You Want! II -Roger Mason
The title is not a gimmick folks. It's not how much you eat- it's WHAT you eat. Whole natural foods are the key to being slim and healthy all your life. Please read Eat All You Want I. You can eat all you want, never be hungry, and stay slim all your life if you just make better food choices. Rural Asians in countries like China, Japan, Viet Nam, and Thailand rarely suffer from obesity. Yes, they work harder physically, but they only eat about 15% fat calories, instead of almost half their calories from fat like we do. Their fat calories come mainly from vegetables (unsaturated) and not animals (saturated). Always remember that there are only three sources of calories- protein and carbohydrates contain only 5 calories per gram, but fat contains 9 calories per gram. It is not food that makes you fat, but FAT that makes you fat. Fat makes you fat, not food itself.
A study was done at the famous Cornell University in New York in the American J. Clinical Nutrition (v. 46, 1987) with real women 22-41 years of age. They used three different fat calorie diets. Some ate 15-20% fats, some ate 30-35% fats, and some ate the usual American 40-50% fats. All the women ate as much of the foods as they wanted with no restriction at all as to how much they ate. THEY ATE ALL THEY WANTED TO, 24 HOURS A DAY! No limits at all on how much food.
The ones who ate the healthy 15-20% fat calorie diet ate only 2087 calories although they ate all they wanted to. The ones who ate 30-35% ate 2352 calories, and the ones who ate 45-50% ate a whopping 2714 calories. All the women ate all they wanted, yet the high fat eaters ate 30% more calories. In only two weeks the women on the low fat diet lost 0.40 kilograms while the women on the high fat diet gained 0.32 kilograms. Think what you could do in a year; this was two weeks. Make better food choices a lifestyle.
This applies to men, children, the elderly, and the sickly, and not just healthy women. Make better food choices. Read books by authors such as Susan Powter, Dean Ornish, Terri Shintani, Michio Kushi, Gary Null, Neal Barnard, Robert Pritikin, and my book Zen Macrobiotics for Americans.
There are a good number of other published studies which showed the same thing- eat all you want when you make better food choices and stay slim and healthy.
First of all, you don't need three meals a day- you only need two meals a day. Why don't you drop either breakfast or lunch and just eat two meals a day? This will make life simpler and you'll have more time and energy for the many other things in your life you just can't find time for. You just don't need three meals a day. Change your life and just eat two meals a day. You'll feel better, you'll have more time, and you'll save money.
Let's start with breakfast. No more bacon and eggs with buttered white toast. Eat any whole grain hot or cold cereal you like. Dress it up with fresh, frozen or dried fruit, chopped nuts, and soy milk. Grocery chains now carry 100% whole grain breakfast cereals with little or no sweeteners. Eat whole grain toast with honey, apple butter, hummus, or your favorite fruit spread rather than butter. Even the non-hydrogenated margarines like Smart Balance/Earth Balance are still high in vegetable fat calories. You only need a light breakfast if you choose to eat breakfast. Take your lunch to work and make it before you go to bed the night before. Make a really, really nice lunch that your co-workers will envy you for. Take a thermos of hot soup or heat it up in the microwave. Make real meals and not just sandwiches. Eat out less often as it is expensive and generally unhealthy. It's very difficult to eat healthy food when you eat out.
Supper is the main meal of the day, so really make a nice one. How can you eat a delicious supper with less than 20% fat calories and not be a vegetarian? Very easily. A good example would be brown rice or whole wheat pasta, cooked dried beans with herbs, your favorite seafood (six ounce portion), a green or yellow fresh vegetable stir fried with lots of non-fat flavor, some whole grain bread, a salad with non-fat or low-fat dressing, and some fresh or even frozen unsweetened fruit for dessert. That would probably be a 10% fat calorie supper and you could eat all you want.
Hunger is one of our most vital and demanding instincts as we all know too well. You cannot go hungry no matter how hard you try. You can eat all you want and lose weight and stay slim all your life and never be hungry. Click here to return to the article library.
