Chelation Therapy is More B.S. -Roger Mason
Many well meaning people have been taken in by the "chelation therapy" promotion. There are two types of chelation. The real chelation is where a doctor injects a chemical called EDTA sodium- known chemically as tetrasodium ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid. This is manufactured by adding sodium cyanide to formaldehyde. This is a popular food preservative you may find in your mayonnaise. To be fair, this does have a use in emergency acute metal poisoning. If you had, for example, acute lead poisoning it would be rational to get EDTA injections very temporarily to get over the crisis. The other type is oral chelation where various substances are taken by mouth. These are mostly the same EDTA. One brand Vaxa refused to even say what is in it. Other chemicals are used such as DMSA (dimercaptosuccinic acid). If you want to take food preservatives to better your health, you seem to have things a little backwards.
If you want to do chelation, the only real way is to get a doctor to inject this every week and pay a lot of money to have a body full of food preservatives. One big problem is that EDTA is not selective; it doesn't know a bad metal from a good one. While it is picking up lead and mercury, it is also picking up zinc, manganese, magnesium, chromium, vanadium, selenium, copper, molybdenum, boron, calcium, and other vital minerals.
There are books on chelation, and they're awful. None of them recommend healthy diet, exercise, and proven supplements like flax oil, CoQ10, beta glucan, beta sitosterol, vitamin D, and others that provide the same supposed benefits of chelation.
The advocates claim that chelation reverses arteriosclerosis, fights fatigue, gives you more energy, lowers your blood pressure, and generally improves your heart and artery healthy by cleaning out your arteries, and removing toxic metals from your blood. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to quit stuffing beef, pork, eggs, cheese, milk, chicken, and other animal fats into your mouth every day? Wouldn't it make more sense to take healthy, proven safe and inexpensive supplements like some of the ones just named? Wouldn't it make more sense to get some exercise and lose some weight?
Would you like to know a way to clean out your arteries, give your poor overworked digestive system a rest, be healthier, live longer and feel better? On top of this, save money, be stronger mentally and emotionally, and to deepen your spiritual awareness?
Fast one day a week. One day a week eat your dinner and don't eat again until dinner the next day. Just water. We've been doing this for about 20 years now. Remember Thoreau said to, "simplify, simplify, simplify..."? Well, this will certainly make your life simpler. Every Friday my wife and I eat dinner and do not eat again until dinner on Saturday. We have all day Saturday to do what we want without being bothered with fixing and eating meals. This will accomplish much more than chelation injections naturally. Why resort to toxic, synthetic unnatural chemicals when you have such a variety of natural methods? This one day a week fast can literally change your life in many ways. There are many good books on fasting recommended in Zen Macrobiotics for Americans. Yes, you can o this and soon you'll find it is actually effortless and fun and you won't even be hungry.
