Colloidal Silver is Crap (2007) -Roger Mason

You have surely heard the miracle cures attributed to colloidal silver. Well, none of them are true. What is "colloidal" silver anyway? A colloid is a superfine particle of a substance that is larger than a true solution, but finer than a precipitate. Colloidal silver contains mere micrograms of the metal per quart of water. First, let me say  that no one could be more biased in favor of silver as an investment. Silver will go to $100 an ounce in the next five to ten years. Topical silver has good uses. is useless however. Look on the Internet to find some of the medical claims for oral colloidal silver. These included arthritis, inflammation, food poisoning, cancer, cholera, conjunctivitis, diabetes, dysentery, diphtheria, eczema, herpes, influenza, leprosy, malaria, meningitis, neurasthenia, pleurisy, pneumonia, prostate, rheumatism, scarlet fever, septicemia, shingles, skin cancer, staph and strep infections, syphilis, tuberculosis, ulcers and whooping cough. This is just a partial list of the claims! 
 
Quackwatch (www.quackwatch.com) is not a good organization  at all. They seem to spend their time criticizing all natural medicine while promoting allopathic medicine. However, they did publish a good article showing the uselessness of oral colloidal silver. The F.D.A. is not our friend either, but they have been going after companies who make medical claims for oral silver. These claims constitute fraud plain and simple.  
 
Many companies charge a lot of money for this. There is less than a  pennys worth of silver in a whole bottle of the stuff. It costs almost nothing to make, as you just run a weak electric current thru a piece of silver in water and leave a few micrograms (millionths of a gram) in solution. Often you see $29.95 prices for a four ounce bottle.

The bottle is literally worth far more than the silver inside.  
 
Now, it should be mentioned that EXTERNAL colloidal silver solutions do, in fact, have proven benefits for infections. Clinical studies have shown very weak solutions of silver have strong, but safe, anti-microbial powers. You now see such products at your local drugstore. If you see bandages with colloidal silver try a box of them.  
 
It comes down to this- garbage like colloidal silver oral solutions are sold to sincere, well meaning people who are looking for alternatives to doctors, allopathic medicine, covering up symptoms while ignoring the causes, and the usual butcher/irradiate/poison mentality of the medical establishment. They hear the well written claims, and buy a product like this only to find it has no value at all. Now, disillusioned with "natural medicine", they go back to their doctor out of desperation.  
 
There are so many clinically proven, scientifically based supplements that will help you live longer, feel better and be free from disease there is no point in selling snake oil like this.
