Dr. Phil Sucks!

- Roger Mason

For those of you who enjoyed the previous article (in our free library) "Dr. Phil is a Big Fat Slob", we have more news on this obese individual who has the unmitigated audacity to tell people how to lose weight. He wrote the Ultimate Weight Solution, Ultimate Weight Solution Cookbook, and Ultimate Weight Solution Food Guide. Actually the Ultimate Weight Solution is a PSYCHOLOGY book more than anything.

In the local dollar stores there were pallets of Dr. Phil's Shape Up! Bars. Guess they didn't go over too well, huh? Talk about junk food! The first ingredient was "fudge syrup". Now fudge syrup is certainly a great way to lose weight and shape up certainly. Dr. Phil's bar is so full of high fructose corn syrup, plain fructose, and sugar as to be obscene. To add insult to injury, he puts synthetic sucralose a.k.a. Splenda (see the article Splenda Isn't Splendid in the articles library) in with all the sugars. There is hydrogenated starch and hydrogenated guar gum in there as well. They must really be good for you. Folks, I'm a chemist and can't tell you what the heck hydrogenated starch and hydrogenated guar gum are. There is lots of chocolate and cocoa powder in here as well. That's healthy, right? Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if chocolate and sugar were good for us? There are 29 ingredients in here plus the vitamins and minerals. This little two ounce bar has an astounding 220 calories. A mere nine bars would be more than enough calories for a grown man and too much for a grown woman. Heck, you're better off with a good Hershey Bar! At least it wouldn?t have 29 ingredients, and you wouldn't be kidding yourself that it was good for you and that it would help you lose weight.

To make all the crap "healthy" he adds some vitamins and minerals. It gets worse. He also has a "Complete Nutrition Shake" made out of skim milk. Pallets of them were in all the Big Lots stores. Guess they didn't go over too well either. (Please read the articles on milk in the articles library.) Milk and dairy products are the worst allergenic foods known. Milk, including skim milk, is full of indigestible lactose or milk sugar. No adult of any race can digest lactose as we stop making the enzyme lactase after weaning. Milk and dairy are the worst foods you can eat. If you want to lose weight the first thing you should do is take milk and dairy products out of your life.

Why sell things like this to people and tell them they will lose weight and "shape up" by eating them? The bigger question is why people are so stupid as to listen to a fat man to learn how to lose weight. What are these people thinking?

What does old Phil recommend you eat? Most anything you want to. You can eat beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, eggs, milk, cheese, dairy products, chocolate, sugar substitutes, canola oil (see the article on canola oil in the articles library for why you should not eat this), and most anything else you like. How the heck are you going to lose weight eating most every food that exists? Isn't that the reason people are fat in the first place? Because they choose the highest calorie, highest fat foods? Because they make such poor food choices?

If you want to lose weight go get a book by Susan Powter, Neal Barnard, Terry Shintani, Dean Ornish, Robert Pritikin, Gary Null or Michio Kushi. You CAN eat all you want if you just make better food choices. No one can lose weight by going hungry - it just isn't possible. You can literally eat all you want, never be hungry, and lose weight and stay slim if you just choose healthier foods. Eat whole grains, beans, fresh green and yellow vegetables, fresh fruit, seafood, soups and salads. Take dairy out of your life. Avoid or at least limit red meat, poultry and eggs. Don't eat refined foods. Stop eating dessert. Please read my Zen Macrobiotics for Americans for more information.
