Declining Sexual Potency
- Roger Mason
If you watch te1evision you must have seen the recent one minute spots for
"Ener-X" the herbal sexual potency enhancer. Certainly readers of this
newsletter were not stupid enough to call the 800 number and order any,
but millions of people were obviously stupid enough as the ad has been
running for months and TV time is very, very expensive. I will not waste
time even discussing why something like this cannot help you regain the
sexual potency, performance, desire and satisfaction you had in your 20's.
Why can't we realize that as we age our sexual desire is rightly replaced
by other interests more and more. Sure, we should enjoy a satisfying sex
life as we age especially if we are married. But to be obsessed with sex
as we were in college is rather immature obviously. As we get older Nature
intended us to gradually replace our interest in sex and reproduction with
other interests. This is not a matter of some modern malady. Primitive
peoples go thru the same gradually declining interest in sex decade after
decade. But there is a matter of loss of potency becoming more and more
prominent in our culture. There is increasingly a lack of ability to enjoy
a happy sex life and to enrich our marriage with intimacy. The answer
obviously doesn't lie in listening to television ads for herbal
concoctions. And this author very much believes and practices herbal
healing. It is said that sex is 10% physiology and 90% psychology and this
is some of the best advice you are ever going to hear about the matter.
It is pretty easy to rule out the 10% physiology. Are you fit and healthy
and reasonably free from illness? Or are you overweight, never exercise
and on at least several medications? Right there gives you the answer as
to why your sex life went south with the rest of your health. There are
two hormones that do, in fact, affect our sexual desire, potency and
performance. It is very easy to clinically determine if our levels are
healthy so we can either rule them out or supplement them.
DHEA is a most important sex hormone and longevity hormone for both men
and women. It falls from the time we are 30 or 40 and we are generally
severely deficient by the time we're 70. If you are low you can buy
inexpensive 25 mg tablets at any drugstore and raise your DHEA levels
safely, effectively, inexpensively without seeing a doctor. Do NOT take
DHEA unless you have tested your level either with a saliva test kit or by
blood analysis with a physician. You are looking for a youthful level like
you had at 30 or 40. Testosterone is also a most important sex and
longevity hormone for both men and women. In men it falls gradually from
the time we are about 50. In women it can either be too high or too low.
If men are low they can take 50 mg of androstenedione tablets and check
their levels again six months later. If women are low they can take a 1/4
or 1/2 tablet and test their levels again in six months. Do NOT take
androstenedione unless you have proven your level of testosterone is low.
You are looking for a youthful and not a high level. You can also choose
to use testosterone gels or patches (but NOT oral salts) from the doctor.
Hormone saliva kits have been discussed in earlier articles.
If your problem is psychological this column cannot help you. Sorry.
