A Cancer Healing Spice - Curcumin- Roger
Mason
Recently I've criticized Life Extension magazine (really a catalog with a price
tag) for good reason. There are good points to this publication however. In
September John Martin wrote an article on "curcumin" the active ingredient in
the kitchen spice tumeric. This was a first class article complete with
excellent references. I was so impressed I went to NIH in Bethesda (the largest
medical library in the world) and looked up some of them.
I had always known curcumin is good for arthritis and high cholesterol, but
didn't know how potent it is for fighting cancer. While heart disease is by far
the leading cause of death in the developed countries, cancer is the second
leading cause of death- especially breast and prostate. Curcumin shows great
promise in the treatment of prostate and breast cancer. The researchers at
Columbia University said, "Curcumin could be a potentially therapeutic
anti-cancer agent, as it significantly inhibits prostate cancer growth..."
Researchers at Wayne State University found curcumin to inhibit colon cancer
cells. At Tufts University curcumin and soy isoflavones were found to inhibit
growth of breast cancer cells. The list goes on to include mouth cancer, lung
cancer and other types as well.
Other researchers gave this to humans with eye diseases such as cataracts and
uveitis with good success. Other studies were done on muscle regeneration with
injuries to the muscle tissue with good response. Curcumin is a powerful
antioxidant and very antibacterial in nature. It also has strong anti-viral
properties and may help AIDS patients live longer (AIDS cannot be cured or a
vaccine made for it since this is a product of military biochemical warfare labs
and is purely a manmade virus with no counterpart in nature). It may be helpful
in Epstein-Barr virus (EPV) which is particularly hard to treat. Curcumin has
shown protective effects against radiation damage which would apply to nuclear
war or people blind enough to get radiation treatments for cancer.
Curcumin has been used for well over 1,000 years and has been a part of
Ayurvedic medicine from the beginning. It is important to remember you should
not merely take tumeric powder (like Puritan's Pride sells) but you must take an
extract that states each capsule has at least 400-500 mg of actual curcumin.
For years I've told people that anyone with arthritis, rheumatism or other
inflammatory conditions should use curcumin about 500 mg a day. In my
cholesterol book "Lower Cholesterol Without Drugs" I strongly recommend curcumin
for not only lowering cholesterol but improving blood parameters generally.
If you can get 500 mg X 60 capsules at your health food store for under $10
that's good enough.
After reading this article by Martin and seeing the studies myself, this was
added to my supplement list and will be added to my book "The Natural Prostate
Cure" in the next printing. This is powerful, proven, effective, inexpensive and
has a tradition going back probably 2000 years or more.
